  Digg Townhall and Meet-up News

  Hey all! Thanks for tuning in to our Digg Townhall on Tuesday night. Keep the feedback coming! If you missed it, you can catch the past Townhalls at digg.com/townhall.

  Be sure to mark your calendar for a few upcoming events — Digg is coming to The Big Apple for Internet Week and we’re teaming up with Revision3 to throw a Digg Meet-up and live Diggnation on June 4th. Join us at Studio B in Brooklyn from 6pm-midnight to meet fellow Diggers and folks from the Digg team. There will also be a performance by Scam School’s Brian Brushwood, special guests and announcements.   Earth Day & Digg Meet-up News

  Hey all,

  Happy Earth Day!

  I’m thrilled to announce that Digg has been recognized as a key source of environmental news by The Daily Green and its “Heart of Green” award. The Environment topic on Digg has become one of the biggest sources for environmental content anywhere on the Web. So, in honor of Earth Day, we encourage each of you to Digg or submit something that you care about!

  I also want to remind everyone that tonight we’re celebrating our first Digg meet-up. The meet-up will be held at Mighty in San Francisco and is the first of many gatherings that we’ll be throwing in the U.S. and abroad. Next stops include Chicago and New York. Check out our Town hall page for the latest dates and details. Hope to see you there.

  Rumors and Speculation

  Hey all,

  Normally our policy is to not comment about things like this, but this morning’s rumors about a bidding war involving Google and Microsoft have created such a stir we feel compelled to tell you all directly that they are completely inaccurate.

  Sorry to burst any drama theories, but they aren’t true. We remain focused on improving Digg and rolling out great features.

  Save the Date: Announcing Digg Town Halls

  Hey all,

  We’re always looking for ways to have more conversations with you to learn how we can improve Digg. To do this on a regular basis, we are launching a series of Digg Town Hall Meetings. We’re holding the first of these the evening of Monday February 25th, where Kevin and I will give an update on what’s happening at Digg, discuss topics that you propose, and answer your questions. It will be webcast live and made available for download afterwards on Digg. Look for more details as the date nears. We hope to have these virtual meetings every three to four months.

  We also plan to throw several in-person Digg meet-ups across different cities throughout the year. These will be more casual, where we can talk about new features and share your feedback over a few beers. We’re putting together the dates and cities, and will have more details on the 25th.

  The Digg Reel launches, featuring the best of Digg videos

  We’re excited about The Digg Reel, a new Internet TV show making its debut on Revision3 today. Hosted by the knowledgeable and lovely Jessica Corbin, the show highlights short clips from popular videos posted by all of you on Digg, along with comments from the community and stories behind the videos.

  This show is near to my heart, as it’s collaboration between two of my favorite companies.

  What’s Happening with HD-DVD Stories?

  Hey all,

  I just wanted to explain what some of you have been noticing around some stories that have been submitted to Digg on the HD DVD encryption key being cracked.

  This has all come up in the past 24 hours, mostly connected to the HD-DVD hack that has been circulating online, having been posted to Digg as well as numerous other popular news and information websites. We’ve been notified by the owners of this intellectual property that they believe the posting of the encryption key infringes their intellectual property rights. In order to respect these rights and to comply with the law, we have removed postings of the key that have been brought to our attention.

  Whether you agree or disagree with the policies of the intellectual property holders and consortiums, in order for Digg to survive, it must abide by the law. Digg’s Terms of Use, and the terms of use of most popular sites, are required by law to include policies against the infringement of intellectual property. This helps protect Digg from claims of infringement and being shut down due to the posting of infringing material by others.

  Our goal is always to maintain a purely democratic system for the submission and sharing of information - and we want Digg to continue to be a great resource for finding the best content. However, in order for that to happen, we all need to work together to protect Digg from exposure to lawsuits that could very quickly shut us down.

  IBM Ad and Diggnation

  Hey all,

  Just wanted to give IBM a big thank you for surprising us in their latest server ad. Not only did IBM put the Diggnation logo on a person’s shirt in the photo, but they also sent us two framed copies of the finished product.
