  Trendspotting Tuesday: Rube Goldberg Contraptions

  Here on YouTube, there's no shortage of odes to 20th century cartoonist Rube Goldberg. If you're not familiar, Goldberg penned a comic series starring the eccentric Professor Lucifer Gorgonzola Butts -- who created elaborate contraptions to perform simple tasks in roundabout ways.
  
  Well, the Goldberg followers on YouTube have that concept down to a T -- and, better yet, they offer complete explanations of how they built their devices and what to expect once things get set in motion. This week's Trendspotting Tuesday showcases those budding inventors whose complicated "machines" do everything from putting dog food in a bowl to pouring a glass of beer to constructing a hamburger. There's also the Rube classics, like the Star Wars edition from RebrnEmpwrd and an office supply version from morebeefplease. Check out the full playlist here and on our home page:

  Recommendation Engine rolling out this week!

  Hey Everyone —

  We’re launching the Digg Recommendation Engine beginning this week. The feature will be in beta and presented to registered Digg users first, based on a random sampling of logged-in users. Look for the red beta flag on your Upcoming tab - this means you now have access to the Recommendation Engine. We hope to roll it out to everyone within the week or so.

  The Recommendation Engine is a cool way to discover new content on Digg. Now that there are more than 16,000 stories submitted to the Upcoming section every day, it’s difficult to sort through everything to find the best content. The Recommendation Engine uses your past digging activity to identify what we call Diggers Like You (who you can see on the right hand nav) to suggest stories you might like.

  You can also read more about the Recommendation Engine in Anton’s Whitepaper.

  As you increase your activity on Digg, the Recommendation Engine will get to know you better and will suggest more targeted content and Diggers Like You. You can always remove specific users from the Recommendation Engine by clicking on the user name and selecting ‘remove from Recommendation Engine.’

  《见证》制片人陈晓卿老师最近在博客上造我谣，但是他没有证据。
  我有证据可以证明陈老师在成都都干了些什么。哈哈。
  之前我说陈老师在成都养尊处优，
  人都养白了，白胖的胳膊哪只蚊子不喜欢呢。
  大家不信。有照片为证（下图）。

  不过，陈老师更喜欢老六的兰花指。讨厌~~~
  

  另，宋石男老师在他博客里把我描述成了柳下惠，
  其实我是柳下秽。
  对历史很有研究的人都知道，柳下惠老师有ED问题。
  宋老师其实是个很纯洁的小男生，他的眼神多纯真啊(下图)。

      出于环保考虑，东京提倡28度办公。

      一进会议室，南会长递了把折扇过来：“温度高了一些，下一次不用西装领带会容易适应一些。”

      嚯，日本人真是身体力行。

      记得两年前，在上海会见南会长，他的见面礼是一副能多次使用的折叠筷子。

  如何抓瓮中之鳖

  按照新华社的标准措词，瓮安县发生的打砸抢烧事件（民间称之为贵州起义）是“一些人因对瓮安县公安局对该县一名女学生死因鉴定结果不满，聚集到县政府和县公安局。在县政府有关负责人接待过程中，一些人煽动不明真相的群众冲击县公安局、县政府和县委大楼。随后，少数不法分子趁机打砸办公室，并点火焚烧多间办公室和一些车辆。”

  按照这篇报道，可以推断出：一、女生死因语焉不详。二、没有说清楚为什么人们对鉴定结果不满意。如果我对新华社报道的结果不满意就不会去冲击新华社大楼，别人也不会，因为不至于造成极大的民愤。这次民愤极大的背后原因是什么？三、县衙门接待不满的群众，说明县领导还是很重视这件事，而且是在接待过程中发生了后面的事情，并非领导不作为造成事态扩大，说明当地政府很重视民意。只是“一些人煽动……少数不法分子……”当然，当我们像余秋雨一样会眸时空，叹古涕今，会发现，在漫漫历史长河中，领导人类进步的都是当时的“一些人煽动……少数不法分子……”，呵呵。

  大家对新华社的报道不太满意，认为避实就虚了。我有一点挺满意，就是这次没有用“一小撮”。因为“一小撮”是贬义词，特指社会危害极大，危及到社会稳定和国家安全，才有资格称之为“一小撮”。

  现在大家都在谈论这件事，我觉得事态的发展会是这样（怎么又跟欧洲杯预测一样）：
  一、公安局会介入调查该事件，是当地公安机关还是异地公安机关不好说；
  二、调查结果是该女生之死与当地特权阶层无瓜葛，比如属于她考试后到河边怀疑人生不小心溺水身亡；
  三、在“6·28”打砸抢事件中触犯法律的不法之徒将被绳之以法。
  四、貌似瓮中之鳖好抓，实则不然。

  我的预测一向不准，不具备任何参考价值，如果有为此事赌博者请慎重。
